Breitling creates the first watch strap made from recycled ocean plastic

With the Superocean Héritage II Chronograph 44 Outerknown, Breitling is, for the first time ever, introducing a watch with a strap made from recycled materials. Each timepiece features a NATO strap made from ECONYL® yarn, a regenerated nylon waste from landfills and oceans around the world.

The Superocean Héritage II Chronograph 44 Outerknown is part of one of watchmaking’s greatest legacies, but it is even more than that – it is a celebration of a meaningful partnership and, with its innovative ECONYL® yarn strap, a timely homage to sustainability” what is stated in Breitling’s website.

Created in collaboration with sustainable clothing brand Outerknown, one of the top fashion brands helping save our oceans, it will be available from mid-November.
With its first watch created from recycled marine plastic, Swiss fine watchmaker Breitling has announced its commitment to the health of the oceans.

The 44mm black DLC-coated stainless-steel watch case is contrasted with a blue ECONYL® strap on this striking new design.
The color blue also creates a powerful, eye-catching link to the oceans and the blue planet, which sustainable clothing brand Outerknown and its co-founder, surfing legend Kelly Slater, are striving to support.
In addition to the ECONYL® strap, the watch will also be presented in a fully biodegradable box meaning it will have as little impact on the environment as possible.

Breitling CEO Georges Kern says “By introducing the ECONYL® yarn strap, we are taking another important step in our commitment to sustainability. We are looking forward to introducing other great watches equipped with these straps in the future.”
